From Parent to Programme Leader: Lucy and Waldah's Story
When Lucy Mbabazi joined Baby Ubuntu in Kampala in 2016, she was one of the very first expert parent facilitators in the programme's initial pilot. Nearly a decade later, she is a central figure in its leadership team - mentoring facilitators and master trainers, and playing a key role in expanding Baby Ubuntu across Uganda and into new regions.
What makes Lucy's contribution so powerful is that it is rooted in lived experience. She is also a parent who has walked this path. Her daughter Waldah - a loving and kind young woman - continues to inspire and teach her every day.
"I love working with Baby Ubuntu because I am also a parent who has walked this path," she says. "It means so much to use my experiences to support other mothers."
For Lucy, Baby Ubuntu is more than a programme. It is a network of connection, learning, and mutual support.
"As an expert parent, I value the way we come together as mothers to share, grow, and lift each other up."
Through her dedication and warmth, Lucy embodies what Baby Ubuntu stands for - empowering families, building community, and creating a more inclusive world for all children.
