Jaya is a child psychologist and has worked across Sub-Saharan Africa for the past fifteen years in child development, childhood disability, mother-child interaction and maternal mental health. She is a certified trainer for the Malawi Developmental Assessment Tool (MDAT) and has trained teams across the world. She began her career in Malawi researching the effects of cerebral malaria on neurodevelopmental outcomes before living in Zimbabwe for 4 years implementing a neurodevelopmental sub study for a nutrition and WASH intervention and later on maternal mental health and early child development studies. Jaya has been based at LSHTM for the past six years and brings a wealth of expertise and experience in child psychology, early child development and disability to the Baby Ubuntu team.
