This month, we were excited to complete Baby Ubuntu training with our first partner in Central America- Reclaim: Dignity + Hope + Life, based in Guatemala. We delivered our first ever fully virtual Baby Ubuntu facilitator training, working with the Reclaim team entirely over Zoom. Reclaim works globally in disability, health, education, and anti-trafficking, with a mission to identify and remove barriers that prevent flourishing in marginalised communities. In Guatemala, their work has focused on assistive devices, and they now plan to use Baby Ubuntu to provide much-needed caregiver support for families of children with disabilities.
This training marked an important milestone for Baby Ubuntu, proving that virtual facilitator training can be both feasible and effective. Key ingredients for success included keeping sessions highly interactive – with roleplays, group simulations, and time for reflection- and encouraging team preparation between sessions.
As one participant shared:
“We’ve been very grateful for the opportunity to be trained online together as a team. The training sparked many productive conversations and actions.”
The virtual format also allowed more team members to take part:
“… online training made this possible. The support and materials from the Ubuntu team gave us real confidence to begin facilitating.”
This experience has shown us that, with the right approach, virtual training can expand access, reduce costs, and accelerate implementation- bringing Baby Ubuntu to new regions while maintaining quality and collaboration.
