This webinar examined evidence-based strategies and practical approaches for identifying developmental disabilities in young children across diverse settings.

Early identification of developmental disabilities is crucial to providing the right support at the right time for children and families. The session featured presentations on a variety of screening and assessment tools, including the MDAT (Malawi Development Assessment Tool) and GMCD (Guide for Monitoring Child Development), covering their use in resource-constrained environments and implementation strategies for community-based developmental screening programmes. This was followed by a Q&A session.

Attendees gained insight into the importance of early identification of young children with developmental disabilities, evidence-based screening and assessment tools adapted for resource-constrained environments, and implementation strategies for community-based developmental screening programmes. Participants also had the opportunity to share experiences and learning with a global expert panel.
