This webinar explored the power of stories to amplify the voices of families of children with developmental disabilities, and the importance of stories in supporting acceptance, healing and shifting perspectives.
The session featured two presentations. The Baby Ubuntu team presented on the “Voices of Ubuntu” event, a family engagement event held in Uganda exploring the power of togetherness and belonging for children with developmental disabilities and their families, including the Baby Ubuntu storytelling toolkit that partners can use to collect stories and images with families. Narrative therapists from India then shared the background to narrative therapy and simple techniques that can be used with families of children with disabilities. This was followed by an interactive discussion and Q&A with attendees.
Attendees gained insight into the importance of stories and amplifying the voices of families of children with disabilities, the Baby Ubuntu storytelling toolkit, and narrative therapy techniques for use with families. Participants also had the opportunity to share experiences and learning with a global expert panel.
